LSO cooks up a fun night for students

Shippensburg University’s Latino Student Organization (LSO) held their annual cookout on Sept. 12 at the McCune Pavilion.  LSO members were joined by the student body to celebrate a night of food, dancing, and culture.

APB hosts campus Game Show night

The CUB MPR was packed on Saturday for Game Show Night presented by the Activities Programming Board (APB). Snacks and refreshments were provided, along with several door prizes for participants.  Students had the opportunity to play classic Game Shows like “Jeopardy!”, “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?”, and “Name That Tune.” However, due to time constraints, organizers skipped “Family Feud” and raffled off the remaining prizes instead.

With music blasting and the smell of buttered popcorn wafting in the air, Shippensburg University Students attended the  Activities Programming Board’s (APB) Kick Off Carnival in the CUB Amphitheatre.

SU students explore clubs at Campus Activity Fair

Rows of tables filled the ShipRec on Sept. 4, each promoting one of the hundreds of student organizations offered by Shippensburg University.  The Campus Activity Fair is an annual event that allows students to explore the different clubs and organizations that Ship has to offer. Everything from Greek Life to student media, to club sports and more.

Shippensburg’s Elite Modeling Troupe hosted the HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) Homecoming, a night celebrating Black excellence. The event was held in Memorial Auditorium and featured music from BOOGZONDABEAT.

Steve Dolbin: 'You can always come home'

Long before he was a professor, Steve Dolbin was a “dynamic little All-American lad,” according to the newspaper, a boy who spent his childhood running around the halls of Shippensburg State College. After a lifetime intertwined with Shippensburg University and 25 years of teaching at SU, Dolbin is stepping away from the classroom.

Mental health advocacy with poet Luther Kissam V

“If I’m really serious about getting better, I need to get better,” said Luther Kissam V.  Cole Kissam, otherwise known as his pen name Luther Kissam V, is a poet and writer from Charlotte, North Carolina. On April 10, he spoke at an event in Stewart Hall inspired by his first book called “Have I Told You About My Superpowers?”

Sink or Ship: Students pitch big in Ship Tank

SU students take home cash prizes after pitching their business ideas to a panel of judges, “Shark Tank” style.  The Charles H. Diller Jr. Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation hosted Ship Tank, on April 10. This was an event meant to “provide Shippensburg students with a chance to explore their entrepreneurial interest in an environment where they can learn, grow, and earn some cash,” according to the Diller Center.

Erica Galioto: ‘It is alive and well’

“I try to take students from where they are to somewhere else, and to me, that is also like therapy,” said Erica Galioto.  Galioto, a Shippensburg University English professor, is a believer of allowing, and guiding, students to reach their fullest potential. To get them to that potential, she is adamant in teaching a variety of topics that range from connectivity and diversity to testimonial experience.
