The Shippensburg University chapter of National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) hosted a de-stress event in the CUB MPR on April 16 to help students de-stress before finals.

NAMI is an on-campus group that addresses different mental illnesses and provides safe spaces and events for students to relax, be themselves and interact with people who understand their daily struggles.

In the MPR, there were tables set up with different activities to help students have fun and de-stress.

Snacks were also provided to students as they walked around the event.

There was a slime table with different colors and glitter options along with a plant potting and painting table with dirt, seeds and paint markers to decorate the pot. Students could also get a free tarot reading at one table.

The event was summer-themed, and empowering music played in the room with artists like Conan Gray, Billie Eilish and Hozier as students explored the different activities.

NAMI also had a raffle for a box of fidget toys, a mini claw machine filled with shaped erasers and a canvas to write destressing/inspirational messages.

Hayley Diehl, the president of NAMI, talked about their inspiration for the event.

“The last few weeks of classes are the most stressful and NAMI recognizes that and how hard it can be on mental health,” said Diehl. “This event aims to help students have a chance to do some self-care and destress before finals start.”

People stood around the tables, engaging with each activity, while catching up with friends and other club members; singing along to songs; and de-stressing before the end of another busy semester.

NAMI hosts many on-campus events to help students de-stress and relax during stressful times, bringing positivity to campus.
