The Raiders’ season is slowly coming to a close and the team looks great as it prepares for the PSAC playoffs next week.
In the first round of the PSAC Playoffs, the field hockey team dropped a heartbreaker, surrendering an overtime goal to suffer a 3-2 loss to Bloomsburg University. Shippensburg twice erased single-goal deficits, but allowed the game-winning goal in overtime to the Huskies, who were playing down one player due to a green card. The Huskies scored the opening goal of the game in the 24th minute when Laura Gerhard jumped on a rebound and snuck it into the goal to give Bloomsburg the 1-0 lead.
They came, they saw and they conquered. The Shippensburg University cross country team traveled to Lock Haven University on Saturday, which served as the site of the 2015 NCAA Atlantic Region Championships and left with hardware for their efforts. The men’s team claimed the Atlantic Region Championship, while the women’s team was able to finish third. On the men’s side, all seven of the team’s runners earned All-Region Top-20 finishes and had all five scorers in the top 10. Sophomore Alex Balla came up clutch with a big Top-5 finish in the 10K, while junior Kieran Sutton finished second overall with an outstanding time of 30:31. The regional championship is the second in SU’s history and its first since 2009.
The Shippensburg University wrestling team started this year’s season off strong with a 26-15 win, along with getting three pins and a technical fall, over Waynesburg University in a road dual meet on Wednesday, Nov.
The Shippensburg University women’s soccer team defeated Lock Haven University 1-0 behind an 85th minute goal from Ashley Weaver. The goal marks Weaver's fifth of the season.
The Shippensburg University volleyball team had a record of 2-1 this past week, with matches against Virginia Union University, Pitt-Johnstown University and Lock Haven University.

Field Hockey wins regular season finale The field hockey team concluded its regular-season win with a 3-0 victory over Bloomsburg University. The Raiders (13-4) captured their first goal of the game in the opening minutes when sophomore Kylie Huffman scored off a shot just inside the circle, which was her second goal of the season. SU extended its lead a minute later when freshman Brooke Zeiders converted on a penalty stroke just inside the left post.
SHIPPENSBURG — Being an established starter in a college football team is a hard task today, especially with how much competition can arise and how much college football programs undergo change.
Daily fantasy sports have exploded over the past year or two, but there are some states that have restricted this sort of gambling.
Shippensburg University hosted its Basketball Media Day on Thursday, with both teams in the midst of preparations for the upcoming season. The men’s squad comes into the season ranked fifth in the PSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll, and looking to continue trending in the right direction under head coach Chris Fite. In his third season, Fite is looking to capitalize on having experience with the team and benefiting from players returning to the roster. “We’re excited about the group that we have here, and we think that with the amount of players we have coming back that we will be a little bit better this year,” Fite said.
The Red Raiders were on the road this past weekend, with matches against Lock Haven and Pitt-Johnstown.
Shippensburg (4-4-1, 3-4-1 PSAC) was outshot 13-5, but managed a victory against rival Bloomsburg 1-0 in a downpour at David See Field. Shippensburg remains undefeated at home, even though they were outshot 6-2 on shots on goal. It looked like the Huskies (4-4-1, 3-4-1 PSAC) were going to take an early lead when Rachel Yenney shot a great ball at the Shippensburg goal, but goalie Leah Roy made an amazing save, pushing it over the top crossbar. Shippensburg’s saving grace came in the 41st minute in the form of senior Haley Jones.
The field hockey team split its pair of home games this week, dropping a 5-2 matchup versus West Chester University but rebounding with a dominating 7-1 beatdown of Mansfield University. Shippensburg (8-2) totaled 53 shots, including 33 shots-on-goal in the two contests. The Raiders’ next test is a home matchup on Wednesday, Oct.

The Shippensburg University men’s soccer team lost 1-0 in a close battle with West Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon. The visiting Bobcats scored the only goal of the evenly-matched game in the 28th minute on a diving header by midfielder Paul Smith.
The Shippensburg Men’s soccer team was defeated by Gannon this past Saturday, resulting in the Raiders’ fourth straight loss. The visiting Golden Knights notched the first score of the day in the 23rd minute with a goal by Sergio Kobowane.
