The Shippensburg University volleyball team traveled to Wheeling Jesuit, West Virginia on Dec. 3 to face off against Gannon University in the 2015 NCAA Atlantic Region Quarterfinals. The Red Raiders started off the first set with plenty of momentum, leading 10-2 when Gannon called the first time-out of the game. Shippensburg was able to sweep the first set easily with a set score of 25-10. The Golden Knights came back ready to fight in the second set, and the two teams battled it out until the Knights finally pulled ahead for the win, 19-25. The third set was an even closer game, with the two teams keeping within a two-point range of one another until Gannon once again pulled ahead to win 25-27. The fourth set would ultimately be the final set of the match, with Gannon claiming victory with a final score of 22-25. Shippensburg did not go down without a fight and racked up some impressive statistics for the match. Annie Goerl and Morgan DeFloria both ended the match with 17 kills each: Taylor Gottshall had 9 kills, as well. Gottshall also had six blocks, adding to her record-breaking total of 476 career block assists. She is also one of four players in PSAC history to total more than 600 blocks. Maria Peluso and Laura Plank both had impressive defensive performances, with 24 digs and 11 digs, respectively. AVCA All-Atlantic Region selection Maura Nolan finished with 33 assists, 11 digs, three kills and three block assists. The SU volleyball team had a long, but very successful 2015 season. The squad tied for the most wins in a single season in Raider history with 30 wins and only nine losses.
