The men’s and women’s swim teams were on the road last weekend as they traveled to George Mason University to compete in the Patriot Invitational.

SU swimming had strong showings throughout the weekend; wrapping up the invitational with multiple top-10 finishes in individual and relay events.

The women’s swim team got a strong performance from senior Carolyn Meier, who led the way for the Raiders with a sixth place finish in the 100-yard individual medley, as well as a seventh place finish in the 100-yard freestyle. Meier also finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle at the Patriot Invitational.

The women’s swim team had a strong finish in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3;34.87. Rikki Sargent, Carolyn Meier, Nollaig Noll and Sidney Owens all contributed in the women’s 10th place finish in the event. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Rikki Sargent had a strong outing with a seventh place finish, along with SU swimmer Nicole Martorella who was able to finish 14th in the event.

Many members of the SU women’s swim team were able to qualify for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships with strong performances at the invitational. The women’s team will be back in action at the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca University on Dec. 4-6.

With the women’s team having a successful outing, the men’s team also impressed in the water. At the invitational, the SU men’s swim team was able to qualify 12 more swimmers for the PSAC Championships in the Jim McKay Natatorium.

Senior Jake Dunnigan had the best finish for the SU men’s team, finishing fifth overall in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:07.82 time, finishing just a second off his personal record. He finished in the top 16 in all four events he participated in.
