The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team sunk a ton of three pointers en route to an 85-72 victory over PSAC Eastern division preseason favorite West Chester University. The Raiders shot a remarkable 52 percent from deep in the contest.

The Raiders got off to a red-hot start from downtown, shooting an incredible 8-11 from three-point range in the first half. Junior Colleen Young hit the first three shot attempts from deep and contributed 17 points, three assists, three steals and three rebounds in the win. For the game, the Raiders shot 9-17 from three-point range.

West Chester had the game within striking distance with 10 minutes left to go in the game, but Shippensburg was able to hold on, thanks to tight defense and a continued offensive onslaught. The Raiders held off West Chester until the Golden Rams started to foul to try and prolong the game. The strategy was unsuccessful, however, as the Raiders hit 14-16 free throws to ice the game. Junior Lauren Gold hit nine of her 10 free throw attempts to close out the match.

SU got contributions from all of its starters, with each starter posting double-digit points. Junior Morgan Griffith, who had 22 points, eight rebounds and two assists in the victory, led the Raiders over West Chester. The Raiders also received strong efforts from junior guard Logan Snyder and junior Haley Scullion. Snyder was extremely efficient, scoring 13 points on 5-9 shooting, while Scullion gave 12 points, four rebounds, four steals and two assists in her first ever start at Shippensburg University.

This win improves the Raiders to 5-1 on the season and their next game will be at home in Heiges Field House, where the Raiders will face off with Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference foe Indiana University of Pennsylvania on Dec. 4.
