Local earthquake surprises community

An earthquake felt in the Shippensburg area that occurred Tuesday around 7 p.m. was originally believed to have a 1.5 magnitude with an epicenter north of Roxbury Road, however, recent reports by the Lahmont-Doherty Earth Observatory show a 1.09 magnitude with an epicenter located near Rowe Run Road.

Maybe you’ve seen some variation of that evolution cartoon — various early humanoid caricatures depicted on the evolutionary path from left to right, culminating in modern man and hunched awkwardly over a computer. The point is clear: the human body isn’t very well adapted to sitting around all day. We need to move.

Weather impacts local pumpkin patches

The perpetual rain Pennsylvania endured this summer not only affected the moods of the state’s residents but also the health of the area’s pumpkin patches. The shortage of pumpkins does not mean no pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving, but for students looking to carve up some Jack-O-Lanterns, the pumpkin problems may put a damper on their wallets.

Police reported that a shed at the Ridge Church of the Brethren, 1095 Ridge Road, Shippensburg, was burglarized on Sept. 28 between midnight to approximately 10 a.m.
