Steve Waithe came close to Russ Dickinson’s 35-year-old school record in the triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 11 3/4 inches that now slots him atop the PSAC rankings and 12th in Division II.

The Shippensburg University women’s lacrosse team snapped a four-game losing streak to PSAC rival East Stroudsburg University on a sunny Saturday afternoon by scoring 11 goals in the first half and limiting the Warriors to just two goals in the second half of a 16-10 victory from Robb Sports Complex. SU had four of its players finish the contest with hat tricks to pick up its first win over ESU since 2008.
The Shippensburg University baseball team was felled on Tuesday afternoon by a two-out rally from Foundation Field, as host Lock Haven, plated seven runs after an eighth-inning rain delay, the final three coming on a bases-loaded triple, en route to a 10-8 conference crossover victory over the Raiders. The Raiders scored eight unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning.

Two Shippensburg University students were added to the 2011-2012 PSAC Winter Top 10 squad on Thursday. Senior indoor track mid-distance and distance runner Stephen Schelander a sociology major with a 3.80 cumulative GPA, was one of two Shippensburg honorees along with senior men’s basketball player John Corrigan. Thursday’s award is the third of Schelander’s career.

SU played to within a two-goal margin of the Golden Rams after the first 13-plus minutes of play in Friday’s contest before West Chester connected for seven of the final nine tallies before the intermission.

The Golden Rams got their only run of the game in the first inning, as designated player Kelly Anderson tomahawked a 1-1 pitch over the left-field fence.
