The Shippensburg University wrestling team took to the mat at Heiges Field House in its first home dual meet of the year and defeated visiting Millersville University 23–18 on Wednesday night.

The Raiders won eight of the match’s 10 decisions to pull their record even at 2–2 on the year.

Tyler Erdman picked up the only pin for SU in the match. That win gave the Raiders a 14–0 lead after the third decision. The Raiders continued that momentum picking up wins in the next three out of the four decisions.

Chris Kochinsky and Cameron Throckmorton both picked up impressive decisions to start off the contest as Kochinsky earned an 8–0 victory while Throckmurton used a series of impressive takedowns in the first two periods to build a 12–3 lead. He eventually took the decision 19–6.

Neal Grudi battled hard in the 157-pound weight class as he defeated Zach Wawrzyniak-Bush to give the Raiders momentum after MU’s Josh Ruppert pinned Mark Lentz in the previous decision.

MU’s Ruppert, Dan Cox, Joel Suter and Brad Ladd picked up victories for the Marauders and Cox, Suter and Ladd picked up the final three wins of the dual meet.

With the loss, MU falls to 0–1 on the year. The Marauders are back in action when they travel to York, Pa. to compete in the New Standard Invitational on Saturday.

The Raiders, bouncing back from a 40–3 trouncing at the hands of Lock Haven University, return to action Saturday, Dec. 8 at the 2012 PSAC Championships hosted by Kutztown University. SU’s next dual meet is Jan. 9 at Seton Hill University.
