It was almost a full house in Shippensburg University’s Memorial Auditorium as students waited to see their favorite childhood songs performed on Thursday night.

The Activities Program Board’s (APB) lip-sync battle challenged contestants to perform Nickelodeon-themed songs as part of Shippensburg University’s homecoming theme, “Shipelodeon.”

The competition had three judges who represented different organizations across campus. Performers were judged by their lip-syncing skills, their ability to dance and having unique costumes. The judges’ comments after the performances were very brief and positive.

The musical acts performed various Nickelodeon songs from “iCarly” to “Fairy OddParents.” SU’s homecoming court also made an appearance and performed a Nick at Nite theme that included theme songs from “All That,” “Friends” and “Full House.”

The lip-sync battle opened with an electrifying performance by senior Tom Fizzano. This was Fizzano’s fourth and final time hosting the battle.

“I’m going to miss it. I got [to host] my freshman year, [when] I joined the homecoming committee. I love lip-sync. All I wanted to do is make people smile, laugh and be happy and I think I delivered that,” Fizzano said.

Different organizations also made appearances, including the Elite Modeling Troupe, which used the stage as a catwalk while wearing high heels. The crowd praised them as they strutted across the stage.

The In-Motion Dance Troupe closed the ceremony with a steamy hip-hop/reggaeton routine.

The event had a $1 admission with all proceeds donated to children with food insecurity in the Shippensburg Area School District.

The lip-sync battle was not the only “Shipelodeon” related event last week. Trivia Night quizzed participants Friday night based on Nick cartoons and live-action shows to celebrate SU’s homecoming.
