Winning streaks are momentum swingers for sports teams.

The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team has strung together five-straight victories for the 2013 season. The Raiders added to that streak on Saturday afternoon when they beat Bloomsburg University 92–83.

The Raiders’ 92 points are the second highest so far this season.

The Raiders started off hot again, which ultimately fueled their victory.

SU scored 12 of the first 14 total points of the game to take an early lead in the first half. The Huskies did not quit and they battled back late in the first half. The Raiders led by as many as 16 points during the first half.

The second half was a different story. It was a tightly contested battle.

The game was close the entire way through and BU tied the game with 13:23 left with a Catherine Noack jumper.

Despite the tie, BU never took the lead.

Sarah Strybuc led the Raiders. She posted a season-high 33 points, accompanied by six assists. The senior balanced her scoring between halves. Strybuc knocked down 11 of her 14 attempts from behind the arc.

Sophomore Stephanie Knauer also made a big contribution for the Raiders, notching 16 points. Ten of those points came from the free-throw line.

A big part of the Raiders’ win today was their success at the charity stripe, which has been a recurring theme this season. SU went 27-for-33 from the line.

The Raiders will now have a 10-day break from games as they return to the floor on Tuesday, Dec. 17, when they head to the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
