Have you ever gone to the movies and noticed that you are the only one in the theater under the age of 50?
“You’re Next” from director Adam Wingard (V/H/S, A Horrible Way to Die), is an average home-invasion/murder-a-nice-family horror flick on the surface.
David Twohy’s “Riddick” is an attempt at reviving the Riddick franchise that received some modest acclaim from the film “Pitch Black” and the video game “The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay”. The film does a good job of bringing the brooding antihero back into the spotlight, but not in any way that will pull in new fans to the Riddick universe.
After a long summer of fairly disappointing movies I was not expecting much for the last few films that were set to release before the start of the fall season.
Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Edgar Wright have made going to the movies fun again. Shaun of the Dead, the first of the Cornetto trilogy, succeeded in successfully handling a horror/comedy zombie flick while simultaneously paying homage to an array of horror classics.
Best movie of the Summer: The best movie you could have treated yourself to this summer was J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek: Into Darkness.” This sequel to 2010’s blockbuster delivers in every way.
Stephenie Meyer really needs to find a new wheel house. Is it really “Twilight” all over again? Not quite, thankfully. “The Host,” directed by Andrew Niccol, is the newest film based off a book by best-selling author Stephenie Meyer.
Not since the likes of “Die Hard,” “Predator” and my personal favorite, “Rambo,” have we seen a good “old-fashioned” action film.
In today’s cinema, animated feature films are a staple in a movie goer’s choice of what to see. There have been so many fantastic animated films throughout the years, but there is one thing that all of those films have in common: They all provide subtitle humor and not just physical humor to keep little ones occupied for an hour and a half. “The Croods,” DreamWorks’ newest animated feature film, directed by Kirk De Micco and Chris Sanders, is the story of a family of cavemen who are trying to survive in a world of dangerous creatures and terrifying landscapes.
It has been 74 years since Judy Garland first donned the ruby slippers and repeated that iconic phrase “there is no place like home,” that defined an era in cinema. A question I asked myself before “Oz the Great and Powerful” started was how a renewal of the story in the form of a prequel could live up to the majesty of one of the most iconic films of all time?
The movie “Snitch,” starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and directed by Ric Roman Waugh, is about an honest businessman whose son is sent to prison on a narcotics charge that can only be reduced with information leading to the arrest of a “bigger fish” in the drug game.
It had only been four months since the final installment of the Twilight Saga was released in theaters, which concluded one of the highest grossing film franchises in history.
Reboots are the downfall of modern cinema. That is the thought that has been reverberating in my mind over the last few years as Hollywood has stopped creating art in films, but instead has resorted to making painfully long franchises and is remaking the same old films we’ve all seen 20 times, in order to make a pretty penny.
The key to really enjoying a movie is to not have any expectations. In December when “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” was released, I was disappointed because my expectations were so high. Thankfully when I saw trailers for Steven Soderbergh’s newest film “Side Effects,” they did not give me high expectations for what this film would be.
“The Master,” released on Sept. 21, is the newest film by acclaimed director Paul Thomas Anderson.
Released on Oct. 12, “Argo” is the newest dramatic thriller from Warner Bros. pictures. Centered on CIA agent Tony Mendez, “Argo” is the story of the 60 U.S.
On Friday Sept. 21, Lionsgate released its newest action thriller movie “Dredd,” starring Karl Urban, Olivia Thirlby and Lena Headey.
On Sept. 28, Endgame Entertainment released its time travel movie “Looper”. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Emily Blunt, this futuristic thriller is already one of my favorite films of the year.
