Men’s indoor track finishes 2nd at Gulden Invitational

The Shippensburg University men’s indoor track team picked up six wins, finishing in second place at the Division I-heavy Gulden Invitational at Bucknell University on Saturday. Junior LeQuan Chapman won the long jump with a 23-foot, 9-inch effort, and took home a first-place triple jump finish at 48 feet, six inches.

Bleacher Talk: Super Bowl XLIX Predictions

Super Bowl Sunday is five days away, and I already have goose bumps just thinking about these two football juggernauts pounding the crap out of each other down in Arizona, trying to bring home the Lombardi Trophy. Although many look at the Patriots as the favorites, given that they completely dominated the Colts in the AFC Championship. Then again, Seattle is the defending champions from last year, and in their comeback win over Green Bay two weeks ago showed the type of heart and grit that Super Bowl champions are made of. After careful research and consideration, your sports editors will predict the outcome of Sunday’s matchup, including the winner and the final score.

Swim teams dominate in dual-meet victory over Davis & Elkins

The Shippensburg University Swimming team took a dual meet against Davis & Elkins on Saturday with the men taking seven events to win 129-68 and the women securing ten event victories in their 108-60 victory. There were several standout performances for the Red Raiders despite many swimmers making their season debuts in certain events for the team.

Men’s basketball wins thriller in OT 80-75 over Wilmington

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team continued its winning streak on Wednesday night as the Raiders took down Wilmington University 80-75 in an overtime thriller. Senior Dylan Edgar picked up his second consecutive double-double behind a team-high 21 points and 14 rebounds, while shooting 10 of 13 from the floor. “It just shows that we can grow through adversity,” said Edgar.

Volleyball ends third straight season in PSAC playoffs

The Shippensburg University volleyball team fell in three straight sets to the Seton Hill Griffins with scores of 25-20, 25-10 and 28-26 on Saturday to end its 2014 season. This marks the third consecutive year the Raiders have made the PSAC Semifinals as they finished the season at 19-15. Junior Taylor Gottshall made Raider volleyball history by completing the season with 125 block assists, finishing with three on the night. Junior Faith Athey had a solid game for SU, compiling seven blocks and seven kills.

Men’s basketball off to perfect start after opening weekend Raiders pick up decisive wins over Georgian Court and Felician in Wolf Bus Lines Tournament

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team demolished Georgian Court 77-54, using strong defense and balanced scoring to win its season opener at Heiges Field House on Friday night. In Shippensburg University’s first game of the Wolf Bus Lines Classic the Raiders limited the Lions to 28-percent shooting, the lowest of any opponent since Neumann in 2006.

Men’s Cross Country runs to second place at PSAC Championships

Heading into the post-season on a strong note, the Shippensburg University men’s cross country team placed second at the PSAC Cross Country Championships at Mansfield’s Lamb’s Creek on Saturday, putting five men in the top 17 spots. Leading the Raiders through Lamb Creek’s ideal, flat course was senior Brayden Burleigh, who placed second with a time of 24:42, the first sub-25:00 8K he has a Raider.

Nowhere to go but up for men’s basketball in 2014

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team is looking to take the league by surprise in 2014. Finishing 2013 with a 3-23 record and picked eighth in the PSAC East Preseason Coaches Poll ahead of only Cheyney, the Raiders squad looks mediocre at best on the surface. Head Coach Chris Fite returns in 2014 for his second season at the helm of the Red Raiders.

Women’s Cross Country Team Takes Third at Conference Championships

The Shippensburg University women’s cross country team placed third last Saturday at the PSAC Cross Country Championships at Mansfield’s Lamb’s Creek, with one Raider claiming an All-PSAC finish and seven cracking the top 40. During last Saturday’s race, on a crisp, autumn day, the Raiders were led by freshman Lizzie Manickas, who placed 12th and ran an 18-second personal record of 22:08 on the six-kilometer course.
