Softball ends season with sweep of Mansfield

The softball team concluded its season on Saturday with a sweep of the Mansfield Mountaineers in an away matchup on Mansfield’s Hellen Lutes Field.

Shippensburg (17-18) shut out Mansfield 9-0 in Game 1 and notched an 11-5 victory in Game 2. Despite the sweep—Ship was eliminated from playoff contention.

The season finale marked the last appearance of ship’s seniors in a Raiders uniform. The six seniors finished with 103 wins in their softball career.

Game 1

Starting Pitcher Liz Parkins tossed six strikeouts and threw a no hitter as the Raiders Defeated Mansfield 9-0 in Game 1.

Shippensburg scored in every inning and totaled 11 hits, including a pair of two-run blasts from junior Briana Giovenco and freshman Chloe Collins.

Senior Tyler Thompson ended the game batting 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a game-high 4 stolen bases. Senior Taylor Weisman had two hits and one RBI. Freshman Eryn Caragein had two hits and pitcher Liz Parkins earned her sixth win of the season.

Ship’s 9-0 victory was its first shut-out win of the season.

Game 2

Shippensburg compiled 15 hits in an 11-5 victory over the Mountaineers in Game 2 of the double-header.

The Raiders and Mountaineers were tied at five runs entering the sixth until Shippensburg hit full throttle and scored six runs in the finals two inning to pull the game out of reach.

Senior Maddie Justice finished the game a perfect 4-for-4 batting with three RBI’s. Relief Pitcher Makenzie Lynn earned her fourth win of the season as she tossed 4 strike outs and hit her first home run of the year.

Senior Tyler Thompson posted three hits—two runs scored, one RBI and one stolen base. Thompson ended her career as the all-time stolen base leader in Shippensburg history with 97 steals.
