Franklin Science Center was evacuated early Monday afternoon after “the odor of something burning inside” was detected within the building, according to a mass email sent by SU News at 3:24 p.m on April 22.

Multiple emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department and SUPD, as well as university facilities, responded to the scene around 2:45 p.m.

Authorities determined the building was safe to reopen by 3:15 p.m. and remained on site to investigate the cause of the smell.

Facilities were seen inspecting the ceiling of Franklin 108, which is the alleged source of the odor.
