Shippensburg University's MSA hosts "Feed the Friend" campaign

Multicultural Student Affairs, known as MSA, is orchestrating an event called the “Feed the Friend” program in collaboration with Aramark.

The program is led with the goal of providing Thanksgiving meals to at least 200 individuals in the local community who are in need during the week of Thanksgiving. The initiative will see Shippensburg University's various organizations come together to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. The outreach efforts will encompass the areas of Shippensburg, Chambersburg and Carlisle, touching the lives of many within the region.

Diane Jefferson, the director of MSA, encapsulated the spirit of the initiative, saying, “It’s not a black thing, it's not a white thing, it's not a gender thing, it's not an ethnicity thing, it’s a human thing." This sentiment underscores the core message of unity and humanity that the “Feed the Friend” program embodies.

MSA is a vital component of this, actively promoting diversity, enhancing mutual understanding and creating an inclusive environment for all students. MSA employs trauma-informed and empowerment frameworks to support and advocate for victims of sexual abuse, intimate partner violence and gender-based crimes. It serves as a valuable resource for issues related to the LGBTQ+ community, gender-based violence and the dismantling of oppressive systems such as sexism, racism, homophobia and transphobia. MSA is a place for students to learn about themselves, who they are, where they want to go and what they envision. Not just to learn about themselves, but to also learn about and engage with others.

Diane Jefferson aptly characterizes MSA as a “family” that supports, advocates, challenges and encourages one another to succeed, reflecting the close-knit and nurturing environment that the organization cultivates.
