Shippensburg University’s National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) hosted its plant bingo on Feb. 25 in the CUB MPR.

NAMI President Hayley Diehl kickstarted the event with some facts about mental health. As students received their bingo cards, Diehl told the audience that plants can reduce stress and anxiety and can even improve quality of life.

The bingo began with four normal rounds, with each winner receiving a small plant. The winner of every fifth round, which was a special round of bingo, won a medium plant. The grand prize winner won a large plant by completely covering their bingo board.

Each round became more intense, with attendees holding their breath as numbers were called. Ties were broken by numbers being called until someone had the number on their board.

“NAMI focuses on advocating for mental health for all students,” Diehl said. “We host plant bingo to promote wellness and mental health. Taking care of a plant can improve students’ physical health and help students succeed on campus.”

NAMI hosts events on campus to promote mental health for all students. For more information, follow them on Instagram at @shippensburgu_nami.
