Commentary: Young voters have the power

If only young voters under the age of 40 voted in the previous presidential election, Donald Trump would not have become president, according to CNN exit polling data.

I have neither the intention of rehashing the problems with the current political situation in America nor the issue of the ongoing national security threat posed by Donald Trump on the nation. What I want to strive for is to encourage young people to vote.

Looking at the polling on global warming, young people believe that global warming is man-made, and when looking at the science behind global warming, it is one of the greatest threats facing not the United States but the entire world. The fate of the world is at stake; young people and, especially, those living in the United States have the ability to take concrete steps towards solving this problem.

Flashback to election night of 2016, if only those under the age of 40 voted, the electoral college would have awarded Hillary Clinton 403 votes and she would have been inaugurated. For individuals under the age of 40, they would have shown the power they hold in the election.

Now is the time for those said individuals to claim their power and use it by voting in not only presidential elections, but in every election in the future.
