Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for what we have, to remind those we hold dearly that we love them and to enjoy an epic feast as a family. Thanksgiving is also an opportunity to prove our newfound “adultness” to our relatives, who often probe us on the holidays with questions about our grades, post-college plans and romantic relationships, yikes!

The best way to politely deflect these questions while proving to your family members that you are now skilled in your adulthood is to offer them something they can’t resist: apple pie!

What you’ll need:

Two store bought frozen pie crusts, in pan.

Four large red delicious apples

½ cup white sugar

½ cup brown sugar

2 tablespoons flour

1 tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp salt

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Dash of nutmeg

Aluminum foil

What you’ll do:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Set frozen pie crusts out to thaw (about fifteen minutes). Allow bottom crust to thaw in pan but remove top crust from pan and set out on wax paper to thaw. Peel apples and slice thinly before cutting into quarters. In a large bowl, combine all of the filling ingredients before stirring apple slices in. Put filling into the bottom crust once it is thawed then carefully put top crust on top of bottom crust. Pinch crusts together to seal before cutting slits in the top crust. Bake for 10 minutes before placing aluminum foil around the edge of the pie crust to prevent over-browning. Bake pie for an additional 30 to 35 minutes. Allow to cool for two hours before serving.
