The 2025 PSAC Championships leave the SU Women’s Track & Field team in fifth place

Shippensburg University’s women’s outdoor track-and-field team finished strong at the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. SU’s women’s outdoor team finished with 69 points to end the three-day conference. 

On Day 1, the women's team started strong. Six runners from the team completed the 10,000 meter race. 

Victoria Mattioli finished third place in the 10k in 38:14.69. Mattioli stayed in the top three throughout the entire race. 

Coming behind Mattioli, Victoria Bartholomew finished in sixth place in 38:54.26. Bartholomew maintained a steady speed throughout the race, increasing her pace around the 4,000 mark. Her increase in speed led her to a 400-meter split of 1:22.24. The time was the third-fastest of the entire field. Bartholomew also posted splits of 1:31 in the 10 of the 12 readings for the final 5,000 meters. 

Notably, junior Lauren Bellows led the throwing team during the PSAC conference. Bellows finished strong taking fourth-place. After two attempts, Bellows held a top mark of 161 feet, 10 inches (49.33 meters). 

Two members of the women’s track-and-field team competed in the heptathlon. Recent graduates finished in seventh place after completing the first four events. 

The next day, the women’s track-and-field team finished in fourth place for the team standings with 32 points. Nicola Puggé, recent SU graduate, advanced to fourth place in the heptathlon and finished with a score of 4,473 points. She reached a season's best coming within 52 points of her personal best during her sophomore season. 

Another notable mention is Riyah Whigham who competed in the long jump and recorded her personal best at 18 feet, 10 ¾ inches (5.76m) leading her to place fourth in the long jump. Whigham exceeded her previous PR by over six inches, leading her to No. 9 on SU’s all-time list for the event. 

Decker returned day two in the top five after recording a fifth-place throw of 133 feet, 8 inches (40.74 meters). ShanAnn Simmons placed eighth on a top throw. 

Ashley Laukus improved her outdoor personal best by 5 feet, 5 ¼ inches (1.66 meters) placing Laukus in sixth place. This gave her the eighth-place spot for the SU all-time Top 10, tying with Kali Dawson. 

The prelims ended with seven individual entries and three advanced to finals. 

A notable mention is Melanie Barger who placed second in the 400-meter hurdles. Barger won the No. 2 seed finishing at 1:03.58. Camryn Pyle earned a spot in the finals after earning the No. 8 spot by taking eighth place in a time of 1:05.87. 

Along with Pyle, Alyssa Wert took the No. 6 seed in the 400-meter finals with a time of 57.35 seconds. Plye and Michelle Olak ran personal records in the 100-meter hurdles. Olak finished in ninth-place with a time of 15.24 seconds. 

The final day of events the women’s outdoor track and field took fifth place at the 2025 PSAC Championships after totaling 69 points. 

Another notable mention is Barger who completed the final 400-meter hurdle at 1:03.32, giving her the fourth-place spot in the 2025 PSAC Championships. This gave her the 10th all-time at Shippensburg University in the event. Pyle also earned seventh place with a time of 1:05.33 for the 400-meter hurdle. She has placed consecutively in the PSAC Top 10 since 2023. 

Barger also competed in the 4x1 relay with Alyssa Wert, Emily Calamia and Addalynn Brower and the 4x4 with Wert, Calamia and Madison Malcolm. Wert went on to take the No. 9 all-time spot for the event for SU.

Mattioli was the only Raider who competed in the 5k race. She finished with a time of 18:33.41, taking fifth place in the event. She also placed third in the 10k race at 38:15.69. 

During the throwing event, Abby Reasoner finished third with a throw of 143 feet, 10 inches (43.85 meters), giving her the second All-PSAC finishing as a four-year scorer in the javelin. Last year she placed first. 

Another notable mention is Mancino who ranked for the fourth time at the PSAC Championships. Mancino earned sixth place this year on a throw of 138 feet, 7 inches (42.25 meters). Her record ranked her No. 8 in all-time school history. 

Cassner also contributed to the throwing events. She earned seventh place in javelin for the second time. 

Simmons finished the shot put championships with a half-inch off of her personal best, leading her to take sixth place. 

Shippensburg’s women’s track and field team finished with a total of 17 individual scoring performers. Two of which qualified for the 2025 division II outdoor track and field championships.
