Open any news site, social media site, or click on the T.V. and what do you see? “Donald Trump.” It seems as though that is the only name we hear anymore. Is there even anyone running against him? Society has become so consumed by his dramatic behavior and entertaining outbursts that we forget the position he is truly running for. As a conservative Republican, I find Donald Trump to be an embarrassment to what it truly means to be a conservative.

As a conservative, we are supposed to hold true to traditional values. But does that mean all conservatives are “rich, old, white men?” Absolutely not. The image that Donald Trump portrays could be killing the conservative movement as we are in the midst of rebuilding it. Trump likes to speak out and say outlandish things, which is why the media continues to give him free coverage. It is basically like watching reality television. Recently, Trump took endorsements from a former KKK member. He has been known to make racist comments and just say horrible things about good and very successful people.

Though the ideals that Trump claims he holds true to are those of true conservatives, the way he goes about expressing himself makes the Republican Party look bad as a whole. In a time where we need people to represent us who are going to show everyone we are not all white, rich, racist, heartless people, I do not believe Trump is the man for the job.

If you scroll through social media, people in the Democratic Party have a better argument than ever against the Republican Party. We have handed them reasons to be able to call us selfish, racist and completely tear apart our values. Is that what we truly want as a party? Absolutely not. In the midst of the conservative movement, we need someone to represent us who is going to respect people, understand the changing world around us and not degrade anyone.

For example, Trump’s idea on the issue of immigration might be one that a lot of people agree with. But the way he goes about it saying that he is going to make the president of Mexico pay for the wall because “trust me, he will listen to me” is just absolutely foolish. Trump has been a good source of entertainment and something for the media to cover to get their ratings up, but I think it is time America takes a look at what is happening.

As a conservative representing the Republican Party, it is embarrassing to me to have such a disrespectful man representing my values. I truly believe there are many others who agree with me. We need someone to represent us who is going to truly make a change and help us show people that we are not the horrible individuals we are portrayed to be.
