NCAA tournament certain to thrill

Beware the Ides of March — A warning all can heed going into the NCAA Tournament. March is widely considered the craziest time of the year in sports and this year will be no different. The college basketball regular season was an upset-filled thrill ride that included a record number of upsets.

The Slate is hosting its own March Madness bracket contest for the NCAA Tournament. You can pick up a copy of an empty bracket outside The Slate office in CUB Room 250 starting Monday afternoon or print out a copy from theslateonline.com.

Women’s basketball falls to No. 1 seed California University of Pennsylvania

The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team traveled to California, Pennsylvania, to take on the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans in the semifinal round of the PSAC playoffs. In a heartbreaking loss for SU, the Raiders’ roster bolstered confidence throughout the evening with impressive performances by the starting lineup. The 78-62 loss featured junior Colleen Young as the leading scorer, which was her fifth game in which she led the team in points this season.

Raiders fall in PSAC Semifinals, 79-68 to Mercyhurst

The Raiders reeled off magical victories in the first and second rounds of the PSAC playoffs, but once the Shippensburg University men’s basketball team arrived in West Chester, its luck ran out. The Raiders fell to the Mercyhurst University Lakers in the PSAC semifinals, 79-68.
