The Shippensburg University women’s tennis squad traveled to Millersville University to take on the Marauders at McComsey Tennis Courts on Saturday, April 16.

The Raiders were unsuccessful in defeating the PSAC East opponent, as they lost 9-0.

The loss is the 10th thus far for the Shippensburg tennis team, as they slide down to 1-5 in the PSAC East.

SU — although suffering the tough defeat — was successful in winning one game at No.1 doubles. The team totaled two No. 3 doubles victories to the list of wins on the day.

Freshman Vanessa Ruffo and Hannah Coath, both stepped up by winning five games in singles action.

At No. 2 singles, junior Emilie Luttman was victorious in four games in each of her two sets, but ended up losing the match to Millersville’s Nicole Doacke, 6-4, 6-4.

In Millersville’s steep victory, the Marauders jump to 7-10, and 5-1 in the PSAC East.

Throughout the contest, the Raiders remained consistent in attempting a comeback, as each Shippensburg Raider that competed was able to record one or more game victories in singles competition.

Doubles was a different story, with the Raiders only winning three total games throughout the three doubles matches, 8-1, 8-0 and 8-2.

This match for the Raiders was the team’s season finale. After a long offseason, they look to reload for next year’s competition.

Shippensburg excelled at home this season, going 3-3 on their home court, and 0-7 on the road. The Raiders want to pick up those wins in order to become the reigning champions of the PSAC East.

The young team looks to make key improvements this offseason in order to get better so they can contend in the competitive PSAC East.
