SU students host evening of facials and fun

Cyndi Lauper could not have said it better when she released the hit song “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” in 1983. A Girls Night program was hosted by two Shippensburg University resident assistants, Olivia Weber and Karla Moses, both of Seavers hall.

SU professors present study on Chile

Shippensburg University students gathered in the Grove Hall forum on Wednesday, Nov. 18, to hear Dr. Paul Marr speak on a study conducted in Chile. The presentation was titled “the Enhanced Vegetation Index Trends of High-altitude Cushion Bogs in the Andes of Northern Chile.” The study took place from 2001 to 2013.

Student-athlete hopes to make changes

LeQuan Chapman, a senior at Shippensburg University, is a man of many talents. He is a communication/journalism major as well as a student-athlete. Chapman, who is a track-andfield athlete, is one of the most successful athletes at Shippensburg University.

Shake, jimmy, twist: Egyptian belly dancing at SU

Students at Shippensburg University learned how to belly dance at the Activities Program Board-hosted event last Thursday night at 8 p.m. The professional belly dance instructor, Deborah Colley, of Shippensburg, began the night by introducing the students to the basic steps of fitness belly dance.

Distributing Dignity: Craft fair to support disadvantaged women

McFeely’s Coffeehouse got a temporary makeover Tuesday night for all the right reasons. Pop music wafted out of the dimly lit lounge, welcoming everyone into the “Craft Café.” Some students gathered around tables, laughing and making various winter crafts, while others were getting their nails painted to perfection.

Professor molds passion into sculpture

A river of metal slips through the backyard, a smooth reflection of the gray November sky. The stainless steel sculpture, 37 feet long, 6 feet wide and 12 feet tall, is an interpretation of the Susquehanna River — a project 10 years in the making with two more to go before its completion.

Project Center hidden gem in the Ceddia Union Building

Tucked away in a corner of the Ceddia Union Building’s third floor is a rarely spoken of resource center for the Shippensburg University community: The Project Center. One of the numerous student-employed departments of the CUB, the Project Center opened in the fall of 2011.

Student uses his experiences to help others

It took 37 years and thousands of beers, but graduate student Kevin Faust found his calling — counseling, the profession that saved his life. Prior to beginning his bachelor’s degree in psychology, Faust was drunk every night for about 17 years.

Relaxing with pumpkins and chocolate

Wednesday afternoon became a bit more relaxing with a pumpkin decorating and chocolate tasting event sponsored by the Shippensburg University Counseling Center. Students stood in line at the Library Plaza, waiting to let their creative juices flow.
