Shippensburg University’s Acting Group (SUAG) hosted a karaoke night on Saturday in McFeely’s.
SUAG has held karaoke nights in the past, but this was its first one back since winter break. The club came together to support one another and kick off the semester with a fun night of music. Attendees were able to request to be added to the queue of singers and performed as both soloists and duets.
SUAG secretary Robbie Ansley sang the first song of the night. He performed “Moscow” from the electropop opera “Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812,” the 2016 Broadway musical adaptation of a 70-page segment from the 1869 novel “War and Peace,” by Leo Tolstoy.
SUAG President Maddie Thievon performed “God Help the Outcasts” from the 1999 musical stage adaptation of “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
Many SUAG members and attendees sang pieces from a variety of theatrical productions and musicals, including “You’ll Be Back” and “Burn” from “Hamilton;” “Suddenly Seymour” from “Little Shop of Horrors;” “Agony” from “Into the Woods;” “Thank You For The Music,” from “Mamma Mia!;” and “When He Sees Me” from “Waitress.”
Musicals were not the only genre of song performed at SUAG’s karaoke night. Some other songs featured during the event were “When I Was Your Man,” by Bruno Mars; “Money, Money, Money,” by ABBA; and “Creep,” by Radiohead.
Karaoke night was just the start for SUAG this semester, and members have already started holding their weekly improv nights in Orndorff Theatre.
SUAG is also planning for their spring stage production of “The Single Man — A Murder Mystery,” which will have four total showings: April 30, May 1 and two final performances on May 2 in Memorial Auditorium.
