Shippensburg University’s indoor track-and-field teams had several stunning performances in the Art Gulden Invitational at Bucknell on Saturday, as the men’s team finished the event in third place, while the women’s team placed fifth.

Freshman Ke’Aune Green was named Track MVP for the meet, winning the 200-meters at 22.05 seconds. He also placed third in the 60-meters, with a time of 6.85 seconds, tying his personal best, which is tied for ninth in SU history.

Other impressive performances on the track included junior Gabriel Lewis placing second in the 60-meters, junior Ni’male Greenwood finishing top five in the 60 and 200-meters, and junior Lavar Jackson and senior Quinton Townsend both qualifying for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships in the 200.

Senior Brennan Wellock led the mid-distance runners, finishing second in the 3K to qualify for PSACs. Freshman Ben Hummel’s fourth-place effort in the mile was also enough for a qualifier.

The field efforts for the men’s team were highlighted by junior Gian Greggo, earning a personal best in shot put for the third straight meet. His throw of 57 feet, 7.75 inches (17.57 meters) was an improvement of 1.25 inches and enough to win the event. The throw sits as third best in the event in school history.

Junior Ashley Laukus also cemented her name in the Raiders’ record book, winning the high jump at 5 feet, 7.25 inches (1.71 meters). It was a new personal best, and is second in Shippensburg history, only trailing Rebekah Newhart’s 5 feet, 7.75-inch effort in 2010.

Sophomore Shaela Kruskie also cracked the SU Top 10 in her event, winning the 5K at 17:38.12. The win was an 80-second improvement from her prior personal best and places her eighth in SU history for the 5K.

The women’s 4-x-400-meter relay team of seniors Melanie Barger, Emily Calamia, Madison Malcolm and Alyssa Wert placed second with a time of 4:03.25, only trailing Bucknell’s A-team. Three of the four also qualified for PSACs elsewhere, including Calamia’s qualifiers in the 60 and 200-meters.

A trio of Raiders on the women’s team qualified for PSACs in their field events: senior Lauren Bellows in the weight throw, junior Carissa Bender in the pole vault and sophomore Anne Gardner in the triple jump. All placed sixth in their respective events.

Shippensburg’s indoor track-and-field teams will return to Bucknell this weekend, taking part in the Bison Open & Multi. The two-day event begins at 4 p.m. on Friday, before resuming at 11 a.m. on Saturday. They will also compete in the Widener Showcase at Penn on Sunday at 10 a.m.
