Shippensburg lacrosse ends season with a fight

The Shippensburg University lacrosse team’s season ended in a hard-fought, double-overtime loss, 11-10, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game on Saturday, May 4 at Bloomsburg University.

An offensive battle occurred throughout the first quarter, beginning with a goal from senior Emily Fenwick. Junior Sara Vosburg posted a second point in the first quarter for the Raiders, assisted by Fenwick. Shippensburg and Bloomsburg were tied, 2-2, to close the first quarter.

The Raiders gave themselves a lead in the second quarter posting four goals over Bloomsburg’s two. Shippensburg’s momentum began with freshman Olivia Glinski, followed by a goal from sophomore Ali Pioli. After a goal from Bloomsburg, junior Jamie Carvin scored off of a free position shot and Pioli posted a second goal in the quarter.

Shippensburg was up going into halftime, 6-4. The Raiders found themselves in a scoring drought in the third quarter, while the Huskies scored five goals.

Shippensburg bounced back in the fourth quarter, posting a total of four goals to tie the game. Two goals were scored by sophomore Keegan Dings and senior Payton Margerum, while Glinski and Pioli posted their second goals of the game.

The fourth quarter ended in a 10-10 tie. Neither team scored in the first overtime period. Bloomsburg found a goal just over one minute into the second overtime period, giving them the point they needed to clinch the win, 11-10.

Junior goalkeeper Kayla Vosburg saved two shots on goal in the first overtime to keep life in Shippensburg carrying them into the second overtime. Vosburg ends the season with 188 saves, a new career high and the most by a Shippensburg Raider in two decades. She is entering her senior season sitting fourth in school history with a total of 473 career saves thus far.
