Shippensburg University´s track-and-field team traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia, to open its outdoor season at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational on Friday and Saturday. Overall, the men´s team recorded 31 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying marks, and the women´s team recorded 20 PSAC qualifying marks.

Among the standout performers were Josh Herbster, Ian Sherlock and Robbie Hrabosky II for the men, and Abby Reasoner, Aliyah Serrano and Sasha Lee for the women.

Sherlock competed in the 800 meters and the 1,500 meters on the track and achieved two personal records. Sherlock nearly ran a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 1,500 meters with 3:49.99 and improved his 800-meter PR by five seconds with 1:53.64.

In the 100-meter dash finals, Eric Kirk and EJ Dorwil finished 3-4 with times of 10.75 seconds for Kirk and 10.88 seconds for Dorwil, who made his comeback for the Raiders after not running last season.

Hrabosky II had a two-second PR in the 400-meter hurdles, running 53.97 seconds, which is not far off the NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Mason Boyd, usually a decathlete, took on the 200-meter dash and won it in a PSAC-leading time of 21.91 seconds, with Kirk taking second place in 21.99 seconds.

In the field, Herbster threw the hammer 196 feet, 11 inches: a new PR and a NCAA provisional qualifying mark. Herbster also hit PSAC qualifying marks in the discus throw and shot put.

Patrick Maloney threw a 2 ½ -feet PR in the shot put to win the event with 54 feet.

On the women´s side, Reasoner hit a new PR and the NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the javelin throw with a throw of 137 feet, 11 inches.

Payton Bauer hit a PSAC qualifier in the shot put with a top throw of 40 feet, 2 ¾ inches.

Serrano set new PRs in the 100-meter and the 200-meter dash in her outdoor debut for the Raiders. She finished the 100-meter dash in 12.07 seconds and won the 200-meter dash in 24.82 seconds.

Lee had a busy day, competing in the 100-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump. She ran 14.80 seconds in the hurdles, jumped 17 feet, 5 ½ inches in the long jump and 38 feet, 2 inches in the triple jump. All three of Lee´s marks satisfied the PSAC standards.

Kyra Gerber paced the female Raiders in the mid-distance events, running 2:21.37 in the 800 meters and 4:43.46 in the 1,500 meters.

The track and field team will split the squad next weekend to compete at the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia, on Friday and Saturday and at the Millersville Metrics in Millersville, Pennsylvania, on Saturday.
