Shippensburg University´s wrestling team lost the dual meet to East Stroudsburg University on Wednesday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup on their senior night in Heiges Field House.

At the beginning of the night, senior Danny Scheib along with his graduate teammates Al Miscovich, Avery Shay and Tyshawn White were honored for their senior night.

While Shay and White did not compete, Scheib and Miscovich won their respective weight classes.

Starting off the night, Shippensburg came in with a disadvantage after having to forfeit matches in three weight classes: 125, 133 and 157 pounds.

In the first match of the night, Miscovich had a dominant match at 141 and won his matchup with a 10-0 major decision to get the Raiders on the scoreboard.

Shippensburg suffered losses at 149 and 165, before redshirt-sophomore Nyiem Flucas pinned his opponent at 174 to bring SU back in the meet.

Freshman Owen Koch then scored a 3-1 decision in his matchup at 184, to keep SU´s hopes for a miracle comeback alive. All Shippensburg needed was two back-to-back pins in the last two matches of the night.

At 197 pounds, freshman Trey Shoemaker took the mat. After being bested by East Stroudsburg´s Ajay Hiller in the first two periods, Shoemaker put up a strong finish in the third period to make the match close again. In the end, Hiller´s lead was big enough to withstand Shoemaker´s finish and the match ended 9-6 for ESU to destroy Shippensburg´s comeback hopes.

In the final match at 285, Scheib scored a pin late in the second period to win over his defensive opponent.

Before the dual meet began, three extra matches were wrestled. The Raiders secured the victory in all of them: freshman Anthony Lavish at 141, freshman Cole Lang at 165 and sophomore Connor Livingston at 285 pounds.

The Raiders will return to action in Heiges Field House for their home finale on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 7 p.m.
