Shippensburg University’s softball team won three of four games against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Mansfield University in its home-and-home series over the weekend.

Standout Hannah Marsteller continued her MVP campaign as she recorded seven hits and five RBIs in total over the series. She is leading the PSAC with a.490 batting average on the year with 57 RBIs and 18 home runs.

In Game 1 of the first doubleheader at Mansfield, the game was knotted at three apiece through five innings until junior Courtney Coy smashed a solo homer for the lead. An RBI single in the same inning from freshman Taylor Myers made the score 5-3,  the final score of Game 1.

Mansfield shortstop Joelle Snyder fueled the team in the nightcap, as she hit two home runs for five RBIs, leading to a 6-4 win, snapping an 11-game losing streak.

In the doubleheader at Robb Field Saturday, SU (22-14, 16-12 PSAC East) got back-to-back walk-off wins to pull off the Saturday sweep over MU.

In a wildly entertaining doubleheader, the teams exchanged leads six times and combined for 41 hits, 11 errors and more than 60 base runners.

Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the sixth in Game 1, Marsteller got two back with a double. Coy hit a three-run home run to take a 5-3 lead into the seventh inning.

Mansfield tied it with a two-run single in the top of the seventh, but Raider sophomore Morgan DeFeo walked it off with an RBI-single in the bottom of the eighth.

In the final game of the series, the Mountaineers took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth inning before Marsteller cranked out her 18th homer on the year to tie it. The Raiders took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the sixth off a passed ball and fielder’s choice.

However, MU would not go away as it scored three runs in the final at-bat to take a 7-6 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

With runners on first and second in the final inning, freshman Maelynn Leber tied the game with a double, putting the winning run on third with no outs. Sophomore Lacey Hunter did the rest, lacing an RBI-single into right for the win and sweep.

Shippensburg is looking to secure one of the two remaining playoff berths in the PSAC Eastern Division with a week remaining in regular season play.

The Raiders will return to action Friday in a crucial series at West Chester University at 1 p.m.
