The softball team dropped both games of a double-header on Saturday afternoon to the West Chest Golden Rams, falling 6-0 in the first matchup and 7-2 in the night cap.

Shippensburg (10-11) totaled 15 hits in the series but its failure to capitalize with runners in scoring positon led to 17 runners stranded on bases for the day. West Chester (26-10) compiled 21 hits, including two home runs on the day.

Shippensburg’s next test is an April 13 2:30/4:30 road double-header against the Bloomsburg Huskies.

Game 1:

Despite eight hits the Raiders were held scoreless and suffered a 6-0 loss in the first match up of the double-header.

Junior Taylor Pattillo’s impressive season continues as she went 3-for-3 from the plate, bringing her season average to .397.

Senior Tyler Thompson finished the game 2-for-3 batting, including a double and one stolen base. Starting Pitcher Liz Parkins tossed three strikeouts in her two-innings pitched. Makenzie Lynn made a relief appearance and threw four strike outs.

Game 2:

The Raiders grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the second inning but were unable to keep pace with the Golden Rams and suffered a 7-2 defeat in the second game of the series.

Shippensburg trailed by only one run in heading into the fifth until West Chester’s Lauren Altenburger cracked a grand slam, giving West Chester a 7-1 advantage. Shippensburg was unable to go on a late-game rally, posting just one more run in the sixth.

Freshman Anna Warfield finished with one single and recorded her first RBI of the season.

Junior Briana Giovenco went 1-for-2 hitting and scored Shippensburg’s second run in the sixth inning after a West Chester fielding error.
