The Shippensburg University baseball team had an outstanding series on Tuesday. The pitching and offense were on point, securing a sweep of Pitt Johnstown during the double header. The SU Raiders were able to take game one 5-0 and also the late game 8-3 at Fairchild field.

Game 1:

SU was unable to score on Pitt-Johnstown until the fourth inning when Austin Allison hit a triple down the left field line that scored Ryan Hill. In the fifth inning, Cody Ezolt hit a single through the left side of the infield to score two and put the Raiders up 3-0. SU added two runs to the total in the sixth which included Grant Hoover stealing home on a double steal. McClintock struck out six while allowing four hits and only one walk to record his first shutout of the season.

Game 2:

In the second game, the Raiders opened the scoring in the third inning when junior Mike Marcinko (Philipsburg, Pa./Philipsburg-Osceola) singled home sophomore Ryan McMillen (New Bloomfield, Pa./West Perry).

The Mountain Cats tied the score at 1-1 in the fourth inning. Shippensburg scored four runs in the fifth and three runs in the sixth to counter a two-run sixth by Pitt-Johnstown, keeping the visitors at arm’s length.

Hill finished the afternoon 3-for-5 at the plate with three runs, one walk, one RBI and one stolen base. Entering the day, he was hitless in 13 at-bats this season.

Marcinko hit 4-for-7 with two doubles, two RBIs, two stolen bases and one run while Spangler finished 2-for-3 with a stolen base, two RBIs and a run.

In the nightcap, junior Seth LeFever (Columbia, Pa./Columbia (Cecil)) earned the start and allowed one run on four hits and struck out two in four innings of work. Senior Nick Massetti (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett Square) picked up the win after pitching a scoreless inning in relief. Sophomore Josh Kutchey (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) got the final five outs to achieve his second save in as many days.

Shippensburg travels to Millersville Friday to take on the Marauders at 1 p.m. in a PSAC Eastern Division doubleheader from Cooper Park.
