Shippensburg’s 33rd annual Corn Festival brought a day of arts, crafts and activities on Saturday, Aug. 31.
With an average of more than 40,000 visitors every year, the Corn Festival was named the best one-day festival in Pennsylvania by the Pennsylvania Festivals Association.
The festival takes place every year on the last Saturday in August rain or shine.
Some popular vendors were selling furniture, jewelry, homemade recipes, hand crafted objects and artwork.
Food vendors pleased visitors as well with corn on the cob, kettle corn, soft pretzels, Asian food, ice cream, crab cakes, Thai cuisine, barbeque and much more.
The Corn Festival also had a great lineup of entertainment throughout the day.
A variety of talent included belly dancers, a harp player, square dancers and a magician. Many children’s activities were also offered.
The Shippensburg marching band’s drumline also made an appearance at the festival, marching down a stretch of King Street and playing songs for passersby.
The annual Corn Eating Contest took place, with the 2012 returning champion Grant Innerst taking first place again by eating seven ears of corn in three minutes.
Visitors could expect to see the popular mascot, Corny the Clown, roaming the streets and giving friendly greetings.
