Raiders pick up first win against Warriors since 2008 to remain in hunt

The Shippensburg University women’s lacrosse team snapped a four-game losing streak to PSAC rival East Stroudsburg University on a sunny Saturday afternoon by scoring 11 goals in the first half and limiting the Warriors to just two goals in the second half of a 16-10 victory from Robb Sports Complex. SU had four of its players finish the contest with hat tricks to pick up its first win over ESU since 2008.

SU baseball drops tough game to Lock Haven

The Shippensburg University baseball team was felled on Tuesday afternoon by a two-out rally from Foundation Field, as host Lock Haven, plated seven runs after an eighth-inning rain delay, the final three coming on a bases-loaded triple, en route to a 10-8 conference crossover victory over the Raiders. The Raiders scored eight unanswered runs after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning.

SU powers through Edinboro in senior night sweep

The Shippensburg University’s softball team celebrated its seniors the best way it knew how; by winning a doubleheader against PSAC foe Edinboro University on Saturday from Robb field. SU’s four seniors made their presence known as they edged EU by one run in each game.

Two SU students added to PSAC Winter Top 10

Two Shippensburg University students were added to the 2011-2012 PSAC Winter Top 10 squad on Thursday. Senior indoor track mid-distance and distance runner Stephen Schelander a sociology major with a 3.80 cumulative GPA, was one of two Shippensburg honorees along with senior men’s basketball player John Corrigan. Thursday’s award is the third of Schelander’s career.

Strong effort not enough

The Shippensburg University women’s lacrosse team tallied 10 goals against No. 9-ranked West Chester on Friday afternoon, its highest total against the Golden Rams in almost six years, but it was not enough as the home-standing WCU squad came away with a 19-10 victory from Vonnie Gros Field. SU played to within a two-goal margin of the Golden Rams after the first 13-plus minutes of play in Friday’s contest before West Chester connected for seven of the final nine tallies before the intermission.

Game 1, SU Wins due to Estep’s performance

The Shippensburg University softball team used a dominant pitching performance to secure the win in Game 1 against West Chester University Tuesday afternoon from Robb Field. The Golden Rams got their only run of the game in the first inning, as designated player Kelly Anderson tomahawked a 1-1 pitch over the left-field fence.

The Shippensburg University baseball team put forth a strong effort in its opening game against perennial region frontrunner West Chester on Friday afternoon from Serpico Stadium but the Raiders could not come away with a victory, dropping the Game 1 of the double header, 4-3.

After victory on Friday, SU falls back to earth with loss to Slippery Rock

The Shippensburg University women’s lacrosse team put forth a valiant effort on Saturday afternoon from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium but could not overcome two big deficits against Slippery Rock, dropping a 13-9 decision in PSAC play on a day in which the two squads joined together to “Stick it to Cancer.” SU fell behind by 4-0 and 6-1 margins in the first half but rallied before the intermission by scoring three consecutive goals and holding The Rock scoreless over the final 13 minutes of the opening frame.

SU ekes out victory over Edinboro with strong performance by Kennedy

The Shippensburg University women’s lacrosse team received another dynamic performance from Lindsey Kennedy on Friday afternoon from Sox Harrison Stadium as the Raiders continued their winning ways with a 9-6 road victory over Edinboro University. SU used steady defense en route to its victory on Friday, allowing just two goals in the first half and six in the contest.
