Shippensburg rebounds to beat West Liberty 21-19 after falling to 15-1 Mercyhurst

The Shippensburg University wrestling team battled to 2-1 from Heiges Field House on Saturday afternoon, falling to Mercyhurst 30-12 before thwarting West Liberty’s efforts in a 21-19 victory and destroying American International University 35-9. The Raiders (5-11, 1-4 PSAC) celebrated Alumni Day before the tri meet, which featured the Mercyhurst (15-1, 5-0 PSAC) and West Liberty (1-6 dual-meet record) matchups at 2 pm.

45-point first half boosts women’s basketball over East Stroudsburg

Five different Raiders scored in double figures, running up the score in the first half as the Shippensburg University women’s basketball team made short work of East Stroudsburg in an 80-60 victory on Wednesday at Koehler Fieldhouse. The Raiders used a 42-15 run in the first half, and led by as many as 22 points in the second half to take home the win. The squad out-rebounded the Warriors 45-33, and the Raiders (14-8, 10-6 PSAC East) currently lead the PSAC with 43.2 boards per contest. Freshman Vicky Tumasz had an incredible night from beyond the arc, sinking 5-of-5 from 3-point range to finish with 15 points.

Raider sports make improvements on signing day

Several Shippensburg University sports have announced their initial recruits for the 2015 signing day. The football program picked up 19 new players, who have all signed national letters of intent or institutional letters to play at SU this fall under coach Mark Maciejewski. “We’re fired up about this recruiting class,” Maciejewski said.

Men’s indoor track sees success in weekend action

Several Raiders posted impressive numbers including personal and PSAC bests this past weekend as the Shippensburg University men’s indoor track team competed in the Crusader Classic on Friday night and the Descriver Invitational on Saturday. The Friday meet featured outstanding performances from the mid-distance runners and throwers for the Raiders.

Shippensburg Goes 3-0 at Virginia Boxing Show

Emily Appleman, Haziz Hill and Tylik Guilford represented the Shippensburg University boxing team last weekend in the Virginia showcase. Guilford, a 156-pound sophomore, fought his first international fight during the Virginia showcase.

Shippensburg hangs on, beats Bloomsburg after first-half rout

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team used a ferocious attack and shutdown defense to run up the score 41-19 by halftime and, ultimately, took down the visiting Bloomsburg Huskies 68-65 on Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House. “We executed and we did what we needed to do today to neutralize them, which was great,” Shippensburg coach Chris Fite said.

Baseball voted 9th in Atlantic region

The Shippensburg University men’s baseball team was voted 9th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Preseason Poll for this upcoming season, being one of only six PSAC schools to be included in the rankings. Despite losing six seniors and some impact players, the team will look for growth this upcoming season.

Swimming tests skills at DI-heavy Bucknell Invitational

The Shippensburg University swim team competed in the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday against a Division I-heavy lineup, in what will be their final tune up before the PSAC Championships later this month. SU received contributions from both the Men and Women’s team, with junior Rikki Sargent posting the lone victory in the 200-yard breaststroke for the team.

Women’s basketball topples Lock Haven in divisional matchup

The Lady Raiders have been making a move in the PSAC East in their last few outings, leapfrogging Millersville and improving its PSAC record to take third place in the division. The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team increased its winning streak to five games on Wednesday night at Heiges Field House, taking down Lock Haven 70-58 in a PSAC East matchup. “As well as our team played, the final score doesn’t show that,” Trn said.

Ex-Raiders Kuhn, Grimes visit 2015 Pro Bowl

Shippensburg University is the only Division II school to see multiple alumni in action at the 2015 Pro Bowl this past Sunday. All-American Green Bay Packer fullback John Kuhn (2001-04), competing for Team Carter picked by Hall of Famer Chris Carter, tied for the rushing lead for his squad with 31 yards on two carries and 13 yards on two receptions.

Edgar’s huge night propels men’s basketball over Lock Haven

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team moved the ball strategically and looked for high-percentage shots, as senior big man Dylan Edgar lifted the team to a thrilling 74-67 win over Lock Haven on Wednesday night at Heiges Field House. The senior captain, one game removed from an 11 rebound, 14 point double-double in a win over Millersville, paced the Raiders in the first half, putting up 14 points and three rebounds, making 6-of-14 from the floor. He had a monster night, finishing with a career-high 31 points and picking up 11 rebounds. “We’ve been working on that a lot, especially after the last game,” Edgar said.
