Several Raiders posted impressive numbers including personal and PSAC bests this past weekend as the Shippensburg University men’s indoor track team competed in the Crusader Classic on Friday night and the Descriver Invitational on Saturday.
The Friday meet featured outstanding performances from the mid-distance runners and throwers for the Raiders.
Senior Brayden Burleigh, the reigning Division II mile national champion, set the top mark in PSAC play for the event with an impressive time of 4:17:39.
Freshman Alec Rideout tossed a personal best at shot put, with a measure of 52 feet, 4 ½ inches. The throw was good for a NCAA provisional qualification, and is Rideout’s third throw this year of more than 50 feet.
Junior Caleb Bartlett picked up two career records on the day, in shot put with a mark of 47 feet, 11 inches and in the weight throw with a 54-foot, 8 ¾-inch effort that measured 15 inches longer than his previous best.
In the DeSchriver Invitational hosted by East Stroudsburg University, the Raider squad improved to 41 PSAC qualifiers and a number of contestants posted personal records including Rideout in shot put.
Rideout improved his weekend performance with another PR of 55 feet, 6 ¼ inches, more than three feet further than his previous day’s mark and good for 13th in Division II and best in PSAC play.
Sophomore Tim Usher grabbed a first-place finish in the 400 meters in a career record performance of 50.09 seconds. The run placed him within the top 5 in the PSAC rankings for the event.
Senior Dan Dreeman won the “wacky events” champion title after winning the 1,000 meters in 2:37:50 and taking second in the 600 meters with a time of 1:23.08.
The Raiders hit the road again next weekend, travelling in split squads to compete at Bucknell on Friday and Boston on Friday and Saturday.
