Super Bowl XLIX has come and gone, and like every fan in the country, everyone is talking about the big game.
The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team used a ferocious attack and shutdown defense to run up the score 41-19 by halftime and, ultimately, took down the visiting Bloomsburg Huskies 68-65 on Saturday afternoon at Heiges Field House. “We executed and we did what we needed to do today to neutralize them, which was great,” Shippensburg coach Chris Fite said.
The Shippensburg University men’s baseball team was voted 9th in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Preseason Poll for this upcoming season, being one of only six PSAC schools to be included in the rankings. Despite losing six seniors and some impact players, the team will look for growth this upcoming season.
The Shippensburg University swim team competed in the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday against a Division I-heavy lineup, in what will be their final tune up before the PSAC Championships later this month. SU received contributions from both the Men and Women’s team, with junior Rikki Sargent posting the lone victory in the 200-yard breaststroke for the team.
Shippensburg junior Cameron Throckmorton won all three of his events and the Raider wrestling team beat Coker 26-13 and Limestone 31-9 but fell to Findlay 25-22 at the Super Region 2 Duals at Tiffin, Ohio on Saturday. Throckmorton beat Nick Goebel, the No.
Super Bowl XLIX is this Sunday, and The Slate's sports editors, like every football fan in the country, have made their predictions on who will win the big game.
The Lady Raiders have been making a move in the PSAC East in their last few outings, leapfrogging Millersville and improving its PSAC record to take third place in the division. The Shippensburg University women’s basketball team increased its winning streak to five games on Wednesday night at Heiges Field House, taking down Lock Haven 70-58 in a PSAC East matchup. “As well as our team played, the final score doesn’t show that,” Trn said.
Shippensburg University is the only Division II school to see multiple alumni in action at the 2015 Pro Bowl this past Sunday. All-American Green Bay Packer fullback John Kuhn (2001-04), competing for Team Carter picked by Hall of Famer Chris Carter, tied for the rushing lead for his squad with 31 yards on two carries and 13 yards on two receptions.
The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team moved the ball strategically and looked for high-percentage shots, as senior big man Dylan Edgar lifted the team to a thrilling 74-67 win over Lock Haven on Wednesday night at Heiges Field House. The senior captain, one game removed from an 11 rebound, 14 point double-double in a win over Millersville, paced the Raiders in the first half, putting up 14 points and three rebounds, making 6-of-14 from the floor. He had a monster night, finishing with a career-high 31 points and picking up 11 rebounds. “We’ve been working on that a lot, especially after the last game,” Edgar said.
The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team defeated the Cheyney Wolves 89-82 Saturday for its second straight win, capitalizing on a 56-point second half and a season-best 9-of-19 from 3-point range. The Red Raiders (10-8, 6-8 PSAC East) saw five players score in double figures on the night.
The Shippensburg University women’s indoor track team returned to action after not having participated in an event since early December and only completing a single week of practice before taking the floor at Saturday’s Gulden Invitational. The Raider squad picked up a 3rd-place finish and sophomore Sarah Hunt was named the Field MVP in competition against six Division I programs.
The Shippensburg University men’s indoor track team picked up six wins, finishing in second place at the Division I-heavy Gulden Invitational at Bucknell University on Saturday. Junior LeQuan Chapman won the long jump with a 23-foot, 9-inch effort, and took home a first-place triple jump finish at 48 feet, six inches.
Super Bowl Sunday is five days away, and I already have goose bumps just thinking about these two football juggernauts pounding the crap out of each other down in Arizona, trying to bring home the Lombardi Trophy. Although many look at the Patriots as the favorites, given that they completely dominated the Colts in the AFC Championship. Then again, Seattle is the defending champions from last year, and in their comeback win over Green Bay two weeks ago showed the type of heart and grit that Super Bowl champions are made of. After careful research and consideration, your sports editors will predict the outcome of Sunday’s matchup, including the winner and the final score.

The Shippensburg University men’s basketball team continued its winning streak on Wednesday night as the Raiders took down Wilmington University 80-75 in an overtime thriller.
