Dunnigan’s finale breaks record

Being a student athlete in college takes an incredible amount of time and dedication. The lifestyle is not for everyone, so those who are able to compete for four years as a student athlete are to be both respected and admired. Jake Dunnigan has definitely earned this respect and admiration for his exceptional career in the Shippensburg University men’s swimming program. Going into his final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship, Dunnigan’s goal was to simply do his best.

SU wrestling sends two to NCAA National Championships

As the first leg of collegiate wrestling postseason closes, wrestlers scattered throughout the NCAA Division II’s four regions prepare for the final stop of the season. For Shippensburg University, the young team traveled to the Mercyhurst Athletic Center in Erie, Pennsylvania, for the two-day Super Region I Championships that were held on Feb.

Mens basketball picks up big win over rival Bloomsburg University

The men’s basketball team capped off their best season since 2006 and clinched a home playoff game with an 84-77win over their rival Bloomsburg University last Wednesday night at Hieges Field House. It is a rare case scenario when a team gets to play their eventual playoff opponent for home court advantage on the final game of the year, although this was the case at senior night at Hieges.

Evan Ramos was a standout on the mat for the Raiders, picking up 20 victories on the season.

Student athletes to reveal child’s wish

In conjunction with the Shippensburg University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the Shippensburg University Athletics Department will host a wish reveal for a local child through Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Northern Delaware and Susquehanna Valley on Wednesday night. SU will be hosting rival Bloomsburg University in a men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader on Wednesday.

Messi scores 300th career La Liga goal

Star soccer player Lionel Messi scored his 300th career goal in the Spanish football league last week, becoming the first player to ever reach that mark in La Liga. Messi also scored another goal later on in the same match, which was against fellow Spanish club Sporting Gijon.

The Raiders picked up a win over PSAC foe Lock Haven University last Wednesday night.

Women’s basketball victorious over Lock Haven, 64-55

The women’s basketball team bounced back from its loss to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East cellar-dweller Cheyney University with a 64-55 win over Lock Haven University last Wednesday night at Heiges Field House. The game was close for a majority of the night, but the ladies capitalized on a big fourth quarter in which they outscored the Bald Eagles 21-11 to secure the victory.

The Raiders stayed hot with a victory over PSAC opponent Lock Haven University last Wednesday night.

Men’s basketball picks up win against Lock Haven University, 83-69

The men’s basketball team continued their winning ways last Wednesday as a late run propelled the Raiders to an 83 – 69 win over PSAC East foe Lock Haven University. The Raiders paced themselves throughout the night, maintaining control of the lead from the 15-minute mark of the first half until the end of the game.

SU’s men’s swim team finishes sixth overall at PSAC meet

The weekend of Feb. 18-21 saw the Shippensburg University men’s swim team compete in the four-day Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championship at the Graham Aquatic Center. Senior Jake Dunnigan led the way on Day 1 of PSACs with a 13th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley (IM). Senior Stefan Szilagyi followed close behind with a 16th-place finish in the same race.

As the end of the 2015-2016 wrestling season slowly draws near, wrestlers across the nation prepare for the second leg of their journeys — the postseason. For the Red Raiders, the road will take them to Erie, Pennsylvania, to battle at the NCAA Super Region I Championships for Division II.

Legends retiring early

In the NFL, there are many great athletes and talents that play the game well. Yet in the past offseason, two of the best players in the entire league decided to hang up the cleats: Calvin Johnson, wide receiver for the Detroit Lions and Marshawn Lynch, running back for the Seattle Seahawks, two of the best at their respective positions. Calvin Johnson has totaled over 700 plus receptions, 11,000 plus yards receiving and 80 plus touchdowns over his great nine-year career.
