Electrical engineering major sent for approval

The Shippensburg University council of trustees approved a proposal to add a new Bachelors of Science degree in electrical engineering last Friday. The Board of Governors for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must also approve the proposal before SU can officially offer the program to students.

SVA organizes campus 9/11 memorial

To honor those who have served and sacrificed for their country, the Student Veterans of America (SVA) on campus placed American flags in the quad in front of Lehman Library. This Shippensburg University tradition reminds the campus community of the events of Sept.11, 2001.

Students immerse themselves in Chinese culture

Facing 2,000-year-old men of clay in an unfamiliar city, students immersed themselves in the ancient culture of China. The Terracotta Army of Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang was just one of the sites that Shippensburg University students visited during their 20-day field study of China this summer.

Campus construction continues into 2014/2015 school year

Construction at Shippensburg University is still underway to convert the campuses heating and air conditioning system to a newer, more fuel-efficient energy system. According to the recent Ship News and Events email, the constuction involving the new heating systems is expected to be completed in September.

New dual certification offered in department of education

Instead of spending more money in graduate school, students in the department of education can now pursue a dual certification in teaching pre-K to fourth grade and special education pre-K to eighth grade. By completing 135 credits in nine semesters, Shippensburg University students can learn how to teach a variety of students in different grades and with different needs.

Dear freshman

As I am sitting here writing this it is hard to imagine that I am a senior. I have been given the honor to work as The Slate’s editor-in-chief for the 2014-2015 school year, something I am very proud of.

The Shippensburg University Department of Geography-Earth Science and held its annual awards reception Friday, April 25, to honor the achievements of 20 outstanding students. Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), an international geography honor society, sponsored the event.

Construction project provide for campus' future

By now most people have realized there are some changes coming to Shippensburg University. While inconvenient, the redirections of foot traffic are necessary in order to allow work crews enough distance to maneuver and operate safely, said Lance Bryson, the associate vice president of facilities management and planning.
