The Shippensburg University community celebrated Constitution Day to recognize the efforts and bravery of the framers of the document Beautiful weather graced the campus for this year’s annual Constitution Day celebration, which was held last Thursday. The morning kicked off with a celebration held in front of the Ezra Lehman Library.

Vigilante security looks out for SU students on Richard Avenue

Steve Oldt, a Shippensburg Township supervisor, hosted a forum on Friday at the Shippensburg Township office to discuss the effectiveness of the weekend security guards deployed on Richard Avenue. Vigilante Security was hired by Shippensburg Township and has worked with the Pennsylvania State Police since April in an attempt to curb the mayhem of Shippensburg’s most ubiquitous party spot.

Professor speaks on LGBT rights on Constitution Day

Shippensburg University professor Steven Lichtman discussed various court cases that addressed the constitutional rights of those in the LGBT community at a lecture in Grove Hall at SU. Lichtman mingled with students while he patiently waited to present his lecture on LGBT rights on Sept.

Student Senate to fill vacant positions

Elections for two Student Senate positions opened Monday morning, giving Shippensburg University students the opportunity to vote for the class of 2019 representatives until Thursday. Raven Francis and Zach Gates are the only two candidates running for the positions.

Student Senate sends clubs in digital direction

The management of student groups at Shippensburg University is headed in a digital direction this year with the help of Student Senate. The new software, Community@SHIP, is a site that now assists clubs in running day-to-day operations, said Student Senate Treasurer Justin Schneider.

Annual Security Report examines crimes at SU

The Shippensburg University Annual Security Report was released to students and staff this week to show statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes and procedures. The report includes crimes related to alcohol, drugs, sexual assault and weapons that occurred on campus, which includes property owned by SU and on public property.

Religious activists visit SU for papal plea

Shippensburg University students had the chance to take political and religious action on Aug. 30, when members of The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property (TFP) arrived on campus to gather signatures for a petition to Pope Francis. TFP is a Catholic American organization that attempts to solve crises affecting American society and the Catholic Church.

SUTV awarded with multiple Emmy nominations

Student media groups at Shippensburg University have a history of success, and this month, one is being recognized. Earlier this August, both SUTV and several alumni received a total of 17 Mid-Atlantic Emmy nominations, including three for broadcasts from the last academic year.

State lawmakers yet to pass budget

Administrators, staff and students from state universities and public schools across Pennsylvania are holding their breath as state legislators negotiate a budget for the commonwealth. The Board of Governors of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) were forced to take action over the summer to increase funding for its 14 universities because the general assembly has yet to increase funding. PASSHE voted in favor of increasing tuition costs for the 2015-16 academic year, according to PASSHE.
