Who wears the pants? Gender and fashion in the 1990s - 2010s

(04/25/23 5:00pm)

As attitudes about women in the workplace and having more social freedoms began to change more rapidly, women’s fashion did as well. Pants finally became a reality for women in every scenario following the 60s and 70s and were now acceptable for eveningwear and professional dress. The 1980s had seen the most casual take on fashion yet with athletic wear and bold colors taking center stage, and this shift to minimalism continued into the 90s.

Who wears the pants? Gender and fashion in the 1940s and 50s

(04/11/23 4:00pm)

Pants were just beginning to come into style in the 1930s, going from socially unacceptable and immodest to something modern, stylish women wore. The 30s saw the rise of women’s trousers in the public eye thanks to movie stars like Katherine Hepburn, but they were still not as prevalent or acceptable as they are today. The 1940s saw a major change.

Who wears the pants? – Gender and fashion in the 1920s and 30s

(04/04/23 4:00pm)

Pants are certainly a staple in anyone’s wardrobe these days, – especially jeans. Yet, trouserrs were not always for everyone. Before 1930, it was unacceptable for a woman to wear true pants unless they were a specific type of pant meant for sleeping, work or sports activity. Such garments were not worn in the public eye and considered immodest. Many articles of clothing that women wear today were somewhat socially restricted and only meant for men’s use. The 1920’s saw the beginning of change.

Your World Today Commentary: Finding Inspiration When Life is a Little Lackluster

(03/21/23 4:00pm)

As an artist, it can sometimes be difficult to find inspiration to continue making you art, whatever that may be. Sometimes, nothing in your life seems to move you enough to drive you to make your art and your creative well keeps coming up dry. This is a problem many artists run into, and is not something to be afraid of. Writer’s or artist’s block does not mean you are a bad writer or artist, it only means you are human.

The new semester and new year bring new challenges, but also new happinesses. Whether or not you believe in a clean slate (pun intended), both certainly can be. Your World Today Commentary: The Little Things Are Sometimes Most Important

(10/25/22 4:00pm)

Recently, between my classes, internship, position at the Slate and role in the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” I have found it very difficult to take time for myself. I found that a lot of friends of mine are in similar positions with all of their commitments. It can be a challenge to know how to take the time you need and how to recharge after an especially rough day.
