Your World Today: Celebrating the end of a semester

It is finally the end of the fall semester at Shippensburg University, and whether you are excited or just a little crestfallen for the end, it should be something to celebrate.

I will not lie — my semester was a little rocky. Juggling classes, the newspaper, my first internship, a radio show and other extracurriculars is no easy feat, as I am sure many of you know. We have likely all battled burnout this semester, myself very much included. I am ready for a winter break that is free of long nights writing essays between rehearsals, waking up before the sun to finish projects and stressing over making the newspaper perfect. I am sure this is not a unique experience.

Do not get me wrong — all in all, I had a terrific time. I have met some of the most amazing people and some surely lifelong friends this semester. It has been a semester of growth and experience. I played a lead role in the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” was on a podcast, ran my very own radio show and had the incredible opportunity to run this newspaper. I also celebrated my 21st birthday, which was really something special. I feel as though I have achieved so much this semester, and I hope you all can say the same.

It has surely been an eventful semester in the Slate. We’ve seen protests, concerts, so many fun events, excellent commentary and so much more this semester in The Slate. I could not be more grateful to my Slate staff for this semester, my first semester as editor-in-chief. COVID-19 made gaining numbers incredibly difficult, but our staff has expanded since then, and it has been amazing to see new faces and new enthusiasm.

To my staff: You have made this semester a truly wonderful experience and I cannot express my gratitude enough. You have all grown so much as writers, editors and photographers, and I am so immensely proud of each and every one of you. The Slate could not run without your tireless efforts throughout each week. I know how much work it takes and I have seen you all flourish despite it all. I am excited for another semester with you all and cannot wait to see all you will accomplish.

To you all: It is my sincere hope that you have the happiest of holidays and get to spend beautiful times with family and friends. I hope all of your classes went well and finals do not stress you out too much. Look back on this semester with pride — you have done it. Another semester of college is now in the books, and you have so much for which to be pleased with yourself. Always remember to take time for yourself when you need it and have that glass of water. Happy end of semester, and see you next year.
