The Shippensburg University baseball team suffered four losses in its series against East Stroudsburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action on Friday and Saturday.

Shippensburg began the series at home hosting a doubleheader where they lost by scores of 5-2 and 17-0.

Junior Mason Morris and sophomore Thomas Cano-Piszel each finished the doubleheader with four hits. Both men entered Saturday having reached base in 21 consecutive games. Cano-Piszel has collected at least one hit in 20 of 21 games.

Cano-Piszel also contributed a solo home run in the second inning of Game 1, with a screaming line drive to the opposite field that raced over the right-field fence.

Sophomore Will Oates, who singled in Game 1, was kept off the bases in Game 2, ending his streak of games reaching base at 20 in a row.

Sophomore Kyle Ausgotharp, the starting center fielder in Game 1, made his first collegiate appearance as a pitcher in the nightcap. He retired six of the seven batters he faced to help save the bullpen for Saturday.

In Saturday’s doubleheader, Shippensburg dropped the two games by a combined three runs, with scores of 7-5 and 4-3.

Shippensburg (23-16, 10-10 PSAC East) scored most of its runs early in both games of Saturday's twin-bill, with East Stroudsburg (27-12, 14-6) outscoring the Raiders by a combined 5-1 score from the fourth innings onward.

Cano-Piszel remained red-hot for the Raiders offensively, totaling six hits in eight plate appearances Saturday, including a two-run homer in the first inning of Game 2. He finished with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Sophomore Evan Shoffler was not far behind with four hits and two RBIs in six at bats.

Senior AJ Wenrich launched a first-inning two-run homer to give SU an early lead in Game 1.

Shippensburg’s Game 2 starter, redshirt sophomore Brady Kain pitched well. After working out of a bases-loaded jam in the first, Kain held the Warriors to just a single unearned run through five innings.

ESU has now won seven games in a row over the Raiders and 16 of the last 17 meetings overall dating back to the 2022 season.

The Raiders will return to action at 2 p.m. on Tuesday when they travel to Pitt-Johnstown for a rescheduled midweek matchup at Point Stadium.

They will then return home at 1 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. on Friday to kick off a four-game series against Mansfield on Senior Day before travelling to Mansfield to finish the series.
