The Shippensburg University lacrosse team netted a game-winning goal in overtime on Wednesday to beat Lock Haven 13-12 before falling short 11-10 against Frostburg State on Saturday.

Both games were nonconference matchups that took place on the road for Shippensburg.

On Wednesday, SU erased a five-goal deficit in the second half, with sophomore Maddie Phommachanh completing the comeback with a game-tying goal with 2:30 remaining, moving the score to 12-12.

The Raiders were turned aside on a pair of possessions late in regulation, including a fantastic save by Lock Haven goalie Gretchen King to deny junior Alexa Bailey. SU sophomore goalie Izzy Sawicki also saved a dangerous free position shot attempt in the final seconds of regulation to force overtime.

Junior Brynn Hauck netted her fifth goal of the contest three minutes into the extra session to give the Raiders the victory.

Hauck also added an assist and a team-high five draw controls. Four of her goals came after halftime.

Phommachanh added a hat trick and two caused turnovers. Senior Ali Pioli had a four-point afternoon, with two goals and two assists, to go along with four draw controls, two groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Freshman Aubrey Bailey, freshman Abby Schwartz-Mitchell and senior Shannon Wood also found the back of the net for Shippensburg.

Junior Hanna Woolf posted a team best of five groundballs, while senior Grace DeMarzio chipped in with four groundballs, four draw controls and two caused turnovers.

Sawicki and freshman Leah Cramer split time in the SU net, each saving two shots. The Raiders outshot the Bald Eagles 42-to-21 overall in the game.

On Saturday, Shippensburg stormed back again from another halftime deficit but ultimately came up just short.

Shippensburg (3-2) scored five consecutive goals to start the third quarter after trailing Frostburg State (3-1) by three goals at halftime, 7-4. The offensive outburst turned the deficit into a 9-7 SU advantage, but Frostburg followed with four straight tallies to come away victorious.

Wood and Phommachanh combined for seven of the 10 Raider goals. Wood tallied a career-high of four goals, while Phommachanh recorded her second straight hat trick, her third in five games this season.

DeMarzio led the team with four draw controls. Pioli added three draw controls. She became the third player in school history to reach 200 career draw controls, with now 201 for her career.

Senior Shawn Coombs posted a team-high four caused turnovers and Sawicki made 11 saves in her first start as a Raider.

Shippensburg opens Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play when it hosts Bloomsburg Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Robb Sports Complex. The Raiders will then travel to Kutztown on Saturday for a 12 p.m. game.
