The Shippensburg University Activities Programming Board (APB) hosted a “Legos and Eggos” event on Feb. 28 in the CUB Multipurpose Room (MPR).
Students started lining up an hour early, and the line wrapped around the stairs. There was a high demand for the event, from the food to the prizes and the atmosphere.
APB had breakfast food and drinks catered at the event. People enjoyed sausage, eggs, potatoes and bagels with jam and butter to add on. Drinks included water and coffee, and there were sweeteners and creamer for the coffee.
Upon walking into the event, students were handed a ticket for the raffle and then picked out a bag of Lego pieces and other trinkets to play with during the event. The MPR was decorated with red, blue and yellow lights in each corner of the room to add to the playful atmosphere.
“The Lego Movie” played on the projectors throughout the room, so people could watch from every angle while waiting for food or at the table. Each table had a red, blue or yellow tablecloth that correlated with the Lego colors. On the tables, there were Legos and Lego-shaped candy to enjoy and play with.
A banner with Legos was set up in the middle of the wall, so students could take pictures in front of it or sign their name on it. Another table was set up with mini-Lego sets for students to build while they watched the movie. The Lego sets included were flowers and plants.
Raffle prizes consisted of many Lego sets including a record player, a space-themed Lego, flower sets, a dragon, the Eiffel Tower, Simba from “The Lion King,” the Disney-Pixar "Up" house, dolphins, a Porsche and “The Great Wave."
There were many other Legos for people to choose from when they were called up as well. The raffle tickets were called multiple times as the event went on.
“This event was very fun. It was cool to see everyone embrace the nostalgia of playing with Legos, watching ‘The Lego Movie,’ and having a night of fun,” a general member of APB at the event said. “We are very happy with the turnout and can't wait for more Lego events in the future.”
At the end of the night, “The Lego Movie” finished, and everyone at the event applauded to end a night of fun and nostalgia. Walking out, people showed off their prizes and talked about how enjoyable the event was and how everyone felt like children again.
