The Shippensburg University Activities Planning Board hosted Sexy Bingo on Feb. 14 in the CUB Multipurpose Room.
The event lasted from 8 to 10 p.m., and students had to be 18 or over to play and enter the event. The line of people went up the stairs in the CUB, showing the support and excitement for the event.
The CUB MPR was drowned in pink lights, and decorated with string lights, balloons, rose petals, candles and even candy on the tables. On the way into the event, there was a PAGE Center table with information, stickers and resources available to students. The event offered pizza, hot cocoa and water to enjoy while waiting or playing.
Shippensburg Univeristy’s student radio station, WSYC, deejayed the event, playing everything from romantic songs to self-appreciation and love in general. Some of the artists that were played included Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Thee Stallion and Bad Bunny.
APB had tables set up outside of the event rather than inside, with the bingo cards, markers, and erasers to make the process smoother and keep people moving into the event.
The rounds of bingo throughout the event consisted of many different types, such as regular bingo, top left corner, four corners and X-shaped bingo. They also did unlucky bingo, where people stand up and sit once their number gets called. They also had a special round all about consent, the PAGE Center and other information about sexual health and wellness, which was a blackout bingo.
The prizes for all of the rounds consisted of sexy baskets, which contained different “spicy" items like sex toys, cleaners, fuzzy handcuffs and other items. There were also card games, couple games and special dice and gift cards for Amazon, restaurants and even for a tattoo. There were larger prizes as well, like a larger sex toy, a Polaroid camera and the grand prize, a Ninja Creami.
Jack Weaver and Ashley Hepler, general members of APB, were pleased with how the event turned out, saying, “A lot of people came to this event even though it is Valentine’s Day. This is such a fun event, and we are very happy with the people who showed up.”
Members also mentioned that the Lion’s Den donated some merchandise to them to help out with the event.
The event was a way to show sex positivity across campus and in the community. Anybody who attended the Sexy Bingo event held by APB will receive 20% to 30% off of their purchase at the Lion’s Den on Feb. 17 and Feb. 19.
“This is such a great club to be a part of, and this event represents consent, freedom and the overall bringing of the community together,” said Emberlynn Allen, another general member of APB.
There are many different resources for people on campus through the PAGE Center, the Wellness Center and other mental health and wellness organizations that deal with violence and can help those who have survived it. Contacts for these organizations are on the Shippensburg University website.
