Shippensburg University’s women’s basketball team defeated Mansfield 83-73 on Saturday for its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win of the season.

It was also the Raiders’ highest scoring game of the season. Leading the team in scoring was sophomore Michelle Olak with 23 points and eight free throws out of nine attempts.

The game was evenly matched to start, as both teams scored 17 points in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Raiders began to pull ahead. Shippensburg scored 19 points compared to Mansfield’s 16, making the score 36-33. Then, the Raiders outscored the Mountaineers by three points in the third quarter and by four points in the final quarter.

Other key players were sophomore Abbie Johns, freshmen Kiara Hardy and Melana Eyer. They each scored double-digit points to help the Raiders secure the victory.

Hardy recorded a career-high 15 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the field. She also had a team-high four assists. Johns and Eyer were the only two who played for the full 40 minutes and scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

SU also scored 15 points off the bench, had 12 second-chance points and scored 36 points in the paint. Mansfield had half as many points, only scoring 18. The Raiders led the entire second half.

Shippensburg is now 2-16 overall (1-10 PSAC). They will play a pair of home conference games this week, facing Lock Haven at 6 p.m. on Thursday before facing Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
