For the first time since 2017, Shippensburg men’s cross-country team is on top of the Atlantic Region, winning the NCAA regional at Lock Haven on Saturday. The SU women’s team also had a strong effort, placing seventh of 23 teams.

The men’s team ended the 10K with 60 points, just two points clear of No. 29 Charleston, the runner-up. Davis & Elkins placed third at 100 points, one point ahead of Fayetteville State. The top three teams earned a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championship in Wisconsin on Nov. 22.

SU controlled the men’s leaderboard early on, leading by 28 points at the three-mile mark. Charleston quickly clawed back, only down six at the four-mile point. It was a nail-biter from there, with the men hanging on for the win.

Senior Garrett Quinan placed third overall, leading the raiders with a time of 30:21.90. It was his third straight Top-5 finish at regionals, and his fourth career All-Region classification. He was the top finishing American in the race.

A trio of teammates joined Quinan on the All-Region team. Redshirt sophomore Tommy Crum Jr. placed fifth at 30:30.20, followed by senior Ryan Wolfe in 12th at 31:14. Junior Ben Devine shined in his first collegiate 10K, finishing in 14th place at 31:22.40.

Sophomore Ramon Urena was the final scorer for the men’s team, with his 27th-place effort being enough to put SU on top. Urena had fought through injury earlier this season, rebounding at the perfect time.

The remaining two runners for Shippensburg were freshman Ben Hummel in 33rd place and junior Brennan Wellock in 45th place.

Pacing the Raiders in the women’s 6K was freshman Mya Trotty, finishing in 11th place overall at 21:54.2, earning All-Region honors with a personal best time.

Sophomore Victoria Bartholomew improved 30 spots from this event last year, placing 28th at 22:19.8. Senior Livi Rieck was close behind in 35th, clocking in at 22:28.7.

Four more runners competed for the women’s team, all making their NCAA Regional debut. Sophomore Brooke Miller crossed the line in 73rd, while sophomore Caleigh Vincent tied for 80th. Freshman Abby Gehris snuck in the top 100 at 99th, and sophomore Kira Logiovine placed 118th.

Davis & Elkins dominated the women’s race from a team standpoint, with all five scorers in the Top 25 overall, scoring 58 points. East Stroudsburg had two runners in the Top 10 as part of a second-place result at 113 points, with Edinboro finishing at 127.

Shippensburg men’s cross country will compete in the NCAA Division II National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 22. The race will be held in Kenosha, Wisconsin, and be hosted by Wisconsin-Parkside.
