Shippensburg University’s men’s track-and-field team scored 148 points to finish second in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships this past weekend at Slippery Rock University. The team won four events and had 12 top-three finishes, earning All-PSAC honors.

SU picked up its first win on night one of the three-day meet, with junior Garrett Quinan defending his PSAC title in the 10K, beating California’s Jon Thrush to the line by half a second to finish with a time of 31:06.18. Senior Aidan Gonder and junior Kevin Wagner both scored points in the event for the Raiders, finishing fourth and seventh respectively.

Friday saw senior Ian Sherlock claiming his third consecutive PSAC title in the 3K Steeplechase in dominant fashion. He led the race from start to finish in a 9:00.38 effort, winning by over 20 seconds.

Day 2 also saw the conclusion of the decathlon, where senior Mason Boyd’s third-place finish shattered his own school record, with his score of 6,955 points beating his old mark by over 270 points. It was one of the most competitive decathlons in PSAC history, as Boyd’s score surpassed the prior meet record.

Saturday’s track finals led to two more victories for the team, including a 1-2 finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Sophomore Bernard Bell III placed first at 14.44 seconds, with senior teammate Jeovaughni Daniel finishing 0.12 seconds behind. It was the first 1-2 finish in the event for SU since 1993.

Senior Robbie Hrabosky II earned his second straight conference title in the 400-meter hurdles, winning with a time of 52.27 seconds. Redshirt sophomore Travis Wilk joined him on the podium, placing third at 53.28 seconds.

Hrabosky was also part of the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second to close the meet. He and his teammates, sophomore Jak Kearney, junior James Jaisingh and junior Quinton Townsend finished at 3:12.95.

Sophomore Gabriel Lewis tied for second in school history with his preliminary time in the 200-meters at 21.28 seconds. He suffered an injury while competing in the 4x100-meter relay, so he was unable to put up a competitive time in the finals.

Other All-PSAC results on the track included Quinan and Sherlock adding onto their victories. Quinan was runner-up in the 5K at 15:05.72, and Sherlock placed second in the 1500-meters at 15:05.72. Freshman Owen Shrader took bronze in the 800-meters at 1:54.13.

Saturday’s top field effort for the team went to freshman Jackson Hersh, whose 210-foot throw in the javelin saw him take second place. Sophomore Gian Greggo scored points in three field events in the meet, placing fourth in shot put and discus along with fifth in the hammer throw.

Shippensburg’s 148 points saw it finish 17.5 points behind league champion East Stroudsburg. While it was the first time since 2008 that SU did not win the league championship, they continue their 23-year streak of top-three finishes.

As of writing, a list of athletes competing in the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships has yet to be released. The national finals will be held in Pueblo, Colorado from May 22-24.
