The Shippensburg University men’s wrestling team traveled to St. Vincent for a dual meet on Tuesday and to Waynesburg for matches against Mount Union, Waynesburg and Lycoming on Sunday. The Raiders season record moved to 3-2.

Before the event, Saint Vincent held a mat dedication for longtime SVC wrestling coach Tom Harbert. Harbert is a former SU wrestler and cross-country runner. He was inducted into the Shippensburg University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.

The night started off slow with tough losses at 125, 133 and 141 pounds.

Despite the setback, redshirt sophomore Mike Trainor flipped the script by securing a pin at 149 pounds. He dominated the match early getting 13 points ahead of his opponent and then ultimately cinched in a cradle for a pin before the end of the second period.

Junior Kyler Everly followed suit, making an exciting season debut at 157. He executed strong defensive moves to earn a 11-1 major decision.

Freshman Anthony DeAngelo secured a victory at 165 with a strong third period.

Junior Trey Shoemaker was next at 174 pounds. He was able to claim the Raiders first lead of the night after securing a third period fall.

To secure the win, junior Cole Lang won a hard-fought decision at 184.

Sophomore Diesel Koser then delivered an impressive reverse pin at 197 and senior Connor Livingston capped the meet with a pin at 285 pounds.

Additionally, junior Anthony Lavish secured a 3-0 decision at 149 pounds in an extra match.

On Sunday, SU traveled to the Waynesburg Duals and faced Mount Union, Waynesburg and Lycoming.

The Raiders edged a close competition to Mount Union, 26-23.

The middleweights proved to be the difference in the match. SU earned victories in every weight class from 141 to 184 pounds.

Sophomore Eli Bounds, Trainor, Everly, DeAngelo, Shoemaker and freshman Cameron Sammarco all picked up wins.

SU secured another win against Waynesburg, 36-3. The Raiders won the first six matches of the dual to take a 27-0 lead. The only loss came at 184 pounds to Waynesburg’s sophomore Jessie Orbin.

Livingston ended the dual with a convincing 1-0 victory at 285 pounds, the Raiders’ eighth victory of the dual.

The last matchup was against Lycoming. The Raiders suffered their only loss of the day, 25-19.

Sophomore Calvin Lederer, Everly, DeAngelo, junior Owen Koch, and Koser picked up wins.

Everly and DeAngelo each won all three of their matchups. Bounds, Lederer, Koch and Koser each picked up two victories.

The Raiders will return home for a matchup against Gettysburg on Friday at 7 p.m at Heiges Field House.
